WP1: Historic comparison of developments within cycling and cycle planning in Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Constructing the Cyclist This article shows how bicycle traffic was marginalised by traffic engineers and urban planners during the post-war urban modernisation of Stockholm. Their understandings of the bicycle as an unsafe, local and primarily recreational mode of transportation were materialised in the urban infrastructure. By promoting specific use and deterring other, planning and infrastructure provision shape traffic and travel practices.
